Frequently asked questions

Here you will find answers to the questions most frequently asked before and after your procedure. For any further question, please contact the secretariat on 022 552 25 45.

What is outpatient (day) surgery?

It allows you to be admitted, operated on and return home the same day, under optimal safety conditions and with effective pain management.

Do I need someone to take me home?

Yes. You must arrange in advance for someone to accompany you home after your procedure — this is mandatory.

How does the anaesthetic consultation work?

A consultation with the anaesthetist is arranged before your procedure, at the Centre or by phone. The appointment is sent to you by SMS, e-mail or post, as you prefer. The anaesthetist determines the type of anaesthesia and explains the pre-operative instructions (fasting, medication to stop or continue).

What should I bring on the day of my procedure?

Your documents (ID, insurance card, admission letter, prescriptions, test results, your companion’s contact details), as well as comfortable clothing and your personal belongings. The full list is on the “Vous faire opérer au CCAG” page.

What should I do if I am unwell (cold, fever…) before my procedure?

If your state of health changes in the week before, please contact the secretariat on 022 552 25 45.

How will I be followed up after my procedure?

You leave with your discharge documents (prescriptions, recommendations, useful phone numbers). The next day you receive an SMS with a few questions about your health; depending on your answers, you receive instructions or a call from a nurse.

Can I drive after my procedure?

No. For the 24 hours following anaesthesia, you must not drive, drink alcohol or make important decisions.

Can my companion stay with me?

They cannot enter the operating theatre or the waiting room. A lounge area (seating, vending machines) is available on the ground floor of the building.

How is the procedure billed?

Services are billed according to the basic tariff and reimbursed by your health insurance (LAMal), less the deductible and co-payment (10% payable by you). If you are not insured under LAMal, a quote is provided beforehand.

How do I get there and where can I park?

The Centre is located at Avenue de Beau-Séjour 24, 1206 Geneva. Drop-off spaces are available in front of the Centre, and there are car parks nearby (Parking Lombard, Champel Park). All access details are on the Come to the CCA page.
